Microsoft Windows CE is an operating system designed for embedded systems. It was designed for embedded devices like PDA(Pocket PC?), mobile phones(Smartphone?). Wince is hard real time operating system. It supports upto 256 priority level. Windows CE 3.0 is superceded by Windows CE 4.0 and Windows CE 5.0, Now the Crossbow successor of Windows CE 5.0 is coming.
In windows mobile there is fascility of transferring data from system(PC) to device and vice versa with the help of bluetooth and infrared. User can synchronize the Contacts, Task, Messages, Calender of device with the PC having Windows OS. Because both use the concept of Outlook? and MAPI?.
The interesting thing with WinCE 5.0 is that emulator can be connected to PC through Activesync and DMA? port. So that User can run setup for Windows mobile application on system. It will get installed in emulator. This feature is not available in WinCe? 4.0.
Windows mobile can not be switched off in reality untill battery is taken out. Because some processes always run in the background. Thats why user can attend the incoming call when phone is in switch off mode.
